Developing: The Value Female Network Africa in collaboration with the Osun State House of Assembly, hosted the inaugural Nigeria Girls Parliamentary Day at the Osun State House of Assembly Main Legislative Chamber in Osogbo | Esther Adeleke Humanitarian Foundation
The event aimed to provide a platform for adolescent girls from all 30 Local Government Areas in Osun State to engage with parliamentarians, executives, judiciary, private sector and other stakeholders.
Unfortunately, I was unable to attend the event in person, but I was represented by Mrs. Olusola Jenyo, the wife of the Honourable Commissioner for Commerce and Industry. Despite my absence, she delivered my goodwill message that was well-received by the attendees.
The event provided a unique opportunity for the adolescent girls to present motion-like submissions on critical issues affecting their health and well-being including menstrual hygiene, Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) and teenage pregnancy.
The Nigeria Girls Parliamentary Day was a significant milestone in promoting the rights and empowerment of adolescent girls in Osun State. Value Female Network Africa, with its proven track record of reaching over 15 million people across Africa, demonstrated its commitment to gender equality and youth development.
The event's impact will be felt beyond the legislative chamber, as it inspired a new generation of young girls to become advocates for their rights and health. The Value Female Network Africa's efforts to prevent gender-based violence, promote adolescent and youth sexual and reproductive health, and support girl child education and maternal health are crucial in shaping a brighter future for Africa's youth.
